Sol de Mexico Tequila is produced by the Productos Regionales De Atotonilco distillery, NOM 1526, in Atotonilco, Jalisco. This family-owned distillery was founded in 1951. Their process starts by harvesting mature (7-10 year old) agave grown in the red volcanic soil of the prestigious Los Altos region of Jalisco. The agave piñas are slow-baked in stainless steel autoclaves, then shredded by a mechanical mill. The agave juice is fermented followed by a double-distillation process using traditional pot stills. Special attention is given during each step of the process to ensure premium tequila is packaged in their stylish bottles. Tequila Connection reviewed Sol De Mexico tequilas in October 2010. Tequila was served at room temperature in Riedel's Tequila Glass.
Sol De Mexico Blanco has a nice aroma of sweet fruit and agave. A slightly warm entry transitions to citrus and spice flavors and a strong presence of sweet agave. This is fine blanco. Tequila Connection gives it a score of 86 converting to a Rating of "Great". The Reposado is aged 6-8 months in American oak barrels. It has a slightly toned down aroma compared to the Blanco (with citrus and agave). We found some spice up front, a bit nutty in the body, followed with a warm and lasting peppery finish. This tequila received a rating of "Great +" and a score of 87.5. The Añejo is aged at least one year. To achieve the desired flavor profile, they blend tequila aged in used cognac casks, used bourbon barrels, and new French or American oak barrels. On the nose we experienced vanilla and wood tones. Upon tasting, we found notes of spice, fruit, sweet agave and vanilla. This tequila also has a "bourbon" hue. A great sipping tequila for sure. It received a score of 90 and a Rating of "Great ++". Well Done! Tequila Connection highly recommends you give Sol De Mexico Tequila a try! [HOME ] [TOP][ALL ABOUT TEQUILA] |
