Welcome
to our Featured Tequila page. This page will be revised periodically
to feature a different brand of Tequila.
Our
current "featured tequila" is: VIDA DE LOUIE TEQUILA
Vida de Louie Tequila is produced at Distillery Valle de Tequila, AKA Casa Maestri, NOM 1438, in the town of Tequila. Brand owner Mark Lowery enjoys vacationing in the Caribbean. Plenty of beer and rum was available throughout the islands, but not much tequila. Mark Lowery is attempting to fix that problem with his Vida de Louie brand. The name “Life of Louie” portrays the carefree life of a pirate, relaxing on the beach and sailing the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Vida de Louie uses agave and volcanic spring water from the Tequila Valley. The agave is cooked in brick ovens and autoclaves, then crushed by a mechanical shredding mill. The sugary juices are fermented using commercial yeast from Germany, then double-distilled in stainless-steel pot stills. The spirit is finally chilled and oxygenated to create a crystal-clear blanco of 40% alc.
Tequila Connection completed our review of Vida de Louie Tequilas on 20 Dec 2020. All tasting was performed using the official tequila glass from Riedel with the spirit served at room temperature.
Vida de Louie Blanco has a light-to-medium-oil consistency (body) with narrow legs trickling down the glass. On the nose, a very light aroma with herbal and citrus tones detected. Upon tasting, we found herbal and spice notes (mint and anise). The finish was a bit dry with a mildly-warm peppery spice. Tequila Connection gives the Blanco an average score of 73 converting to a Rating of Very Good -.
Vida de Louie Reposado is rested in single-use Kentucky Bourbon barrels for 6 months in natural subterranean caves (giving the spirit a light-toast color). We experienced light aromas detecting herbal notes, vegetal (jalapeno), spice (cinnamon) and oak. Upon tasting, we sensed warm cinnamon, herbal and vegetal notes along with hints of vanilla. The finish is of medium length, with a bit of fruity sweetness and a touch of oak.
Overall, we thought it was a bit more complex than the Blanco. We gave it a score of 82 converting to Great --.
Vida de Louie Añejo is rested in single-use Kentucky Bourbon barrels for 13-16 months (giving the spirit a light-honey appearance). The body was medium-oily, with slightly more defined legs on the glass. We detected aromas of stone fruit, spice, vanilla and oak. Upon tasting, once again we experienced flavors of warm spice (cinnamon and pepper), fruit (black cherry), and vanilla, The spice notes dominate into the medium-length finish along with flavors of fruit and oak.
Tequila Connection gave the Añejo a score of 85 and a respectable Rating of Great.
The bottle’s pirate-style design is unique, as is the stopper, and seemingly fitting for a release in the Caribbean Islands.
